Spring

I’m spending more time outside this month.  Last month seemed to require an extra-intensive amount of screen-time.  Now, getting out, the weather invites it. The clients are fun to connect and plan with.  The garden demands it.  Also looking at new things to use online and evaluating what is benefit and what is cute but useless.  Almost like weeding.

I was invited to beta http://www.breadpro.com/howitworks.  Spent all of one minute looking at it and walked away.  Haven’t we moved beyond the interruption ad days of television?  ’Excuse me while I flash this disruption in front of your face for 20 seconds.  We know you didn’t ask for it but hey, maybe what we want to show you is more important than what you clicked to see.’  It doesn’t seem respectful.

Word Clouds.  http://www.wordle.net/ Fun.  Copy/Paste a bunch of text from your blog, your FB newsfeed, your website… and see what rises to the top.

Storage space online?  Back-up place? Docs repository? https://drive.google.com offers 5GB for free, to start. Nice.

We’re building more http://wordpress.org websites than ever.  So apparently, is the rest of the world.  Rapidly becoming ‘expert’.

Please join me outside your normal routine.  We’ll both be more balanced and the people we work and live with will probably benefit collaterally as well!  What have you done this month that is new, for you?

There are Three Types of Website Designers.

Helpful info but, ummn, wrong?

Actually, there are as many types of website builders, designers, developers as there are company types.  What type of company is The Simplify Company?  We look kind of like this…

Online Social Media Consultation: Yes. Guiding companies who aren’t sure if/how/when/why they want to engage in social media. Tends to be one on one.  Me and your company designate.

Professional Website Designer Firm: Yes we do the big projects, with a small company.  Our company teams up with whatever talent we need to accomplish your goals.  We don’t source off-shore* - we maintain relationships with numerous specialists and work together as required.

Freelancer: Yes. I am also a WordPress specialist and build, fix, update, maintain WP sites.  These smaller projects tend to start at just over $2,000, up to where your imagination decides that’s enough, for now!

Company team member: Yes, in some situations I act like a member of your company.  Via a support agreement you contact me whenever there is an update, hiccup or consultation required regarding your online presence.  We guarantee a response time and take care of it, leaving your staff to focus on their own work.

Small companies such as mine are versatile not only because we need to be. This diversity of expression keeps the work and ongoing learning very interesting!

The Simplify Company - My Therapy Bar

This interesting little project began with a taste.  After enjoying the chocolate bar that we purchased in Vancouver’s Whole Foods Market I called Shadi Javadi, the owner of Deliss Chocolate Inc, we met and began I working with her on this great little WordPress project.  I wanted to meet her because I thought the marketing concept was brilliant and her story fascinating!

This website enables Shadi to update the website content on her own.  She is a tireless promoter who uses Facebook and Twitter well so we integrated these two social media right into the website.  Every time she updates on Twitter or Facebook it appears on her website pages as a live feed.  Google Search loves this inbound traffic and it will affect the website’s search engine ranking.

A simple Google Maps embed enables the retail location mashup to help potential customers find My Therapy Bar.  If your local upscale, socially conscious food market is not carrying this bar, there is a Wholesale application provided for them to open an account.  An interested Japanese client prompted Shadi to include a Japanese ‘about’ page with consultation and translation provided by Yuya Kato at GPE.

A recent update: Save On Foods,  major food retailer in British Columbia, Canada is carrying the bar across their chain in the next few months.  Congratulations Shadi!

HistoricYale.ca went live with a new WordPress (WP) website today!  This local historical society was looking for a new look and the control of content that a WP content management system can provide them.
This site is intended to be an anchor site for the flickr.com and facebook.com sites that HistoricYale also maintains.  Embedding Google Maps on the Location page and Google Calendar on the Events page round out the externally linked references that contribute with editable content.  A Share link from Addthis.com enables site visitors to share the page info via their favorite social media network.
Google Analytics has been included so each page’s visitor traffic can be analyzed and evaluated through the on and off season.
To help the Google rankings an account was also created at Google Places.  This handy map-baased locator profile enables photo uploads and reviews from visitors.
The colorful history of YaleBC is worth checking out.  Go visit the museum, the church and historic installations and pan for gold!
