Living with Gratitude

This week has been one for the books.  My books anyway!

A week ago our daughter, Jessica was in a rollover car accident, and walked away from it. I live in gratitude for her life that came so near to ending.

A few days later my laptop froze up.  Relatively new, clean, shouldn’t.  Did.  Most of my data was backed up or retrievable.  Emails not.  I am grateful that my old laptop can pinch-hit while the new one is in for warranty work.  This may not seem so significant but unfortunately it is.  My laptop is where I make my living.

In my community I’m involved with a volunteer fire department.  Last night we attended a rollover accident and the driver survived it, relatively unscathed.  At tonight’s practice session I watched new volunteers engage with full energy alongside experienced firefighters, eager to be part of something that makes a difference in our community.

I really am surprised that I often need to search intently for the good things of life.  They are everywhere after all, aren’t they.  What the day dishes can seem so difficult, but when considered over time, appears as part of the mosaic of good that invariably cloaks us, shelters us, celebrates with us.

To the creator, to you and to that which is life itself in us, I say thank you.
